FreePPP


FreePPP is more stable than ConfigPPP, but overall not as good as Remote Access. Also, there are three versions of the software, which are fairly similar but different enough that you want to know which version they're using beforehand.


1. How do you setup multiple connections in FreePPP?
You can set up multiple configurations in the locations tab.

2. What's the difference between version 2.6.1 and 2.6.2?
The only real difference is in creating a new dial account. In 2.6.1, it's under the accounts tab. In 2.6.2, you need to click on CONNECT TO then click on NEW ACCOUNT.

3. How do you change the phone number in a connection?
Click on the accounts tab. Highlight the account you wish to change, then click EDIT. Click on the dialup tab. Make necessary changes, then click OK.

The GENERAL tab
The General Tab in version 2.5 In order to create a new connection, you need to click on the accounts tab. Make sure "Disconnect if idle" is unchecked.

The ACCOUNTS tab
The Accounts Tab in version 2.5 On the left are the all the accounts that have been set up so far. Edit and New are self-explanatory (and in fact will both bring up the same screen). Duplicate will make a copy of an account, which is useful if you want two accounts: one with the -2500 number, and the other with the -3000.

The Accounts Tab in version 2.6.2 Duplicate will make a copy of an account, which is useful if you want two accounts: one with the -2500 number, and the other with the -3000. Because setting up an account is different in 2.6.2 than the others, this window is different as well. Here you enter the username and password. The only option you want next to "Connect:" is Directly.

The MODEMS tab
The modems tab for version 2.6.X Version 2.5 does not have this tab. You may wish to check this screen if you get a "No dial tone" error message."
When you click on either NEW or EDIT you'll see this window. In PORT SPEED the choices are 38800, 57600, and 115200. The higher the speed the faster it potentially may go but also the more unstable it may be. If 'CTS ONLY' doesn't seem to work in FLOW CONTROL, try 'CTS & RTS'.
