| Some of my original black lines were put
there to mark where I wanted to place my main shadows. Since I have painted
the main shadows in, I am going to go to the Black Lines Layer and use the
Eraser tool to wipe away those temporary lines. When done, remember to
return back to the Skin Layer! |

| Remember the Color Selection screen where I showed the skin color and the shadow color? By drawing a line between the two, I can plot a Shade Range that I can use to fade the shadows into the skin gradually. |

| Select a mid-point in the Range,
then choose the Airbrush tool and set it at 50% Pressure. Use a medium
Brush size, Airbrush along all the shadow lines. |

| Still referring to the Color Range, gradually
select lighter and lighter shades and and continue to draw in Airbrush 'halos' along
the outer edges until the colors look blended together.
Finally, use the Blur Tool (the one that looks like a drop of water), and select a medium Brush. Smooth our the colors by bluring the shadows until you feel that they are just right. |

| The dark shadows are now finished, but we
need to add skin highlights to certain areas. Keeping in mind that the light
source is coming down from above, the upper cheek where the tear is going
down needs to be lightened. The Dodge Tool (looks like a lollipop) will
lighten up an area depending on how long you hold down the mouse button.
The top of her nose, chin, and throat also need slight highlights.

| When you feel that you have finished working
on the Skin Layer, we need to erase color spillovers that have gone outside
the black lines. Select the Eraser Tool (make sure it's set on Pencil) and
trace along the edges of the black lines. Once a Layer is cleaned up, it
really makes it look nice.

| Now that the Skin layer is finished, you can work on another
layer, such as the hair. Click on the Layer Command Menu.
Select New Layer and name the layer Hair.
By applying the coloring and shading techniques you used on the skin, you can make some very beautiful hair. One of these days I might do a hair tutorial, but this should be enough to get you started.. =~,^= |
