Dear Volunteer,
Thank you very much for your interest in volunteering for Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Monmouth County. Our work area is in the northeastern part of Monmouth County. We started in 1993 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, an organization which has been helping low income families achieve the dream of home ownership for more than two decades.
We completed our first house, a renovation, in Long Branch in 1996. Since then we have constructed 6 more in Long Branch, 2 in Middletown, 2 in Red Bank and one in Keansburg. Besides Saturdays, we work on Wednesdays to accommodate volunteers in Corporations who are given time off to volunteer.
Habitat depends entirely on its volunteers to accomplish its mission. We’re looking forward to your help in construction and/or any of the other activities that may interest you. You may put in as much or as little time as you wish. Please note, only volunteers 16 and over are allowed at the worksite.
At the present time we are working on finding land to build more affordable houses. We were given a house in Long Branch and are sprucing it up for a new partner family. When we need help, we will notify volunteers by email.
We are also starting our A Brush With Kindness Program (ABWK) where we do exterior painting and landscaping work on homes that have fallen into disrepair because the homeowners are low income and cannot perform this type of work themselves, We are looking forward to starting up in the near future.
We are also starting a ReStore in the near future where we’ll be selling gently used furniture, appliances, and housewares. We are accepting donations now of these items and will need volunteer help in the store itself.
Short descriptions of various volunteer activities are provided on the attached sheet titled, “Volunteer Opportunities”. We desperately need help on some of our committees. If you would like to discuss any of them, please feel free to ask. I will try to answer your questions and refer you to volunteers on the committees you’re interested in.
