Habitat is always in need of help. If you would like to swing a hammer or a paintbrush, take on office duties, or serve on one of our numerous committees, or if your religious group or organization wants to coordinate a work crew to help with our building efforts.

Volunteer Opportunities

To qualify for our home ownership program, applicant families must:
- Be U.S. citizens.
- Be a resident of, or work in, Northeast Monmouth County, NJ.
- Currently live in sub-standard housing (e.g., poor heating, plumbing or electricity, leaks in roof, overcrowding, unsafe area).
- Earn $35,000 to $65,000 per year.
- Volunteer at least 30 hours with HFHNMC in construction or committee projects.
After qualifying, the family must volunteer at least 420 additional hours of "sweat equity" prior to purchasing the home.
Habitat houses are not free. The new homeowner is expected to repay a no-interest mortgage to HFHNMC over 20-30 years. (The monthly payments are about the same as the monthly rent the family previously paid for housing.) The homeowner is also responsible for all taxes, utilities, and home maintenance.
