How to Qualify to Live in a HFHLB
House TO
QUALIFY
To
qualify for out home ownership program, applicant families must:
- Be U.S. citizens.
- Be a resident of, or
work in, Northeast Monmouth County, NJ.
- Currently live in
sub-standard housing (e.g., poor heating, plumbing or electricity,
leaks in roof, overcrowding, unsafe area).
- Earn $25,000 to
$37,500 per year.
- Volunteer at least 30
hours with HFHLB in construction or committee projects.
After Qualifying
After qualifying, the
family must volunteer at least 420 additional hours of "sweat
equity" prior to purchasing the home.
Habitat houses are not
free. The new homeowner is expected to repay a no-interest mortgage to
HFHLB over 20-30 years. (The monthly payments are about the same as
the monthly rent the family previously paid for housing.) The
homeowner is also responsible for all taxes, utilities, and home
maintenance.

Committee will call you and answer any questions you may have.
