Tomb Raider—Stage 11—Obelisk of Khamoon

This walkthrough is intended to describe the Obelisk of Khamoon clearly enough for you to follow it. It relies heavily on the compass. Please write me if you find a passage obscure. (In the walkthrough, not in Khamoon.)

This walkthrough describes the Saturn version of Tomb Raider. If you know of discrepancies in the PlayStation version, please let me know.

11A. The Four Passages.

11A.i. Approach.

Enter through the double doors you unlocked at the end of Level 10. There are no hazards. Leave the room eastward, climb onto the ledge to the left (north) and go to the end. Drop into the northward corridor and go to the end.

The passage to the left is blocked by a door. Go to the right and enter a room with four brass blocks.

Move the four blocks to expose four passages. Only the leftmost passage is obligatory.

11A.ii. The first passage.

The rightmost passage leads to a Small Medipack (*). There is a panther in the alcove. If you pull the block two spaces instead of one, you may be able to lure the panther out and jump onto the block before it bites you.

11A.iii. The second passage.

The next passage to the left has a panther and nothing helpful. Don't bother with it.

11A.iv. The third passage.

The next passage leads down into a room with a Small Medipack and a panther. You may be able to kill the panther from above before you drop into the room.

Kill the panther, throw the switch (S), and climb east along the north wall, getting the Small Medipack (*). Climb the brass blocks and make a running jump to the hole (=) in the opposite wall. It leads into a small room:

Jump over the hole (:) and get the Magnum Clips (*) behind the door. Then drop through the hole and return to the Four Passages Room.

11A.v. The fourth passage.

The leftmost passage is an underwater corridor that leads to a flooded room with a circular walk:

Quickly find a place to climb out, and kill the crocodile. Swim to get three items (*): Magnum Clips on the floor, and a Small Medipack and a Sapphire Key in holes under the walk. Save (&) and swim back to the Four Passages Room. Leave the room and use the Sapphire Key in the Lock to open the door to its right and the high door in the Four Passages Room.

11B. The Great Obelisk.

Behind the unlocked door is a tall flooded room with high balconies.

At the bottom of the water lies a set of Magnum Clips. In the center of the room is an island with a tall Obelisk and Shotgun Shells. High bridges run north, east, south, and west from the Obelisk to the sides of the room. Each bridge leads to an artifact lying against the Obelisk. All four bridges have raised segments. To reach each artifact you must throw a switch somewhere to lower the segment on the bridge that leads to the artifact.

In the north face of the obelisk, under water, is an opening blocked by a door.

11C. The Eye of Horus.

Go back to the Four Passages Room. Push a brass block under the high door and jump into it. Use the Save Icon (&) to save your game, and climb the steps with your gun drawn.

Kill the panther mummy. Throw the switch (S) to lower the bridge and get the Eye of Horus (*). (You can save a little time by waiting till you have lowered all four bridges, then collecting all four artifacts by jumping from one bridge to another.)

11D. The Ankh.

To save time, dive into the pool. Try not to miss. Get the Magnum Clip at the bottom of the pool and the Shotgun Shells on the island. Swim to the east end of the north wall, climb out, and slide down westward. Approach the room to the north but before you go down into it, kill the two panthers.

Climb to the top step on the east wall. Climb or jump three times to reach higher platforms. Do a running jump to the platform in the center of the room, jump to the west ledge, and get the Large Medipack. A hole under the arch leads to a slide into a separate room to the west. Don't bother with it unless you're interested in sightseeing; it has no prizes and no hazards.

Climb onto the arch, go to the southwest corner, and do a running jump-and-grab to the ledge on the south wall. Climb onto the block and jump up to the platform to the north. Do a running jump to the next platform, and a running jump-and-grab to the next. Save your game (&).

You see a broad flight of steps arising from the west wall, and beyond it three pillars on top of a wall. Jump to the descending steps beneath the broad flight of steps on the west wall. A panther mummy awaits on the broad steps, so climb up just long enough to lure it, then drop to the steps below and kill it with pot shots.

Climb up onto the foot of the broad steps. Cross them and throw the switch (S) to lower the bridge to the Ankh. Hang and drop south to a fenced balcony and get a Small Medipack, Magnum Clips, and Magnums or Magnum Clips. Climb back up to the west and climb the broad steps to another room. You see a closed door (\) in the south wall and a hole in the floor. To the east are unprotected drops, one to the fenced balcony and one into the Great Obelisk Room.

Drop through the hole in the floor. You slide twice to a medium-sized room with a double-ended corridor in the west wall. Climb into an alcove before the panther gets you, and shoot it.

            Floor         Middle Section
Go into the corridor and get the Magnum Clips. Throw the switch in the right alcove to transform the slide to a stair. Climb the stair halfway and jump to a platform with Shotgun Shells (*). Return to the stair, climb two more steps, jump off, save your game (&), and exit east to a ledge on the west wall of the Great Obelisk Room. Jump north to the northwest corner, go east to the bridge, and get the Ankh (*).

11E. The Seal of Anubis.

Recross the bridge, return to the northwest corner, and jump south. Continue south to get the Large Medipack (*), and throw the switch in the southwest corner to transform the second slide to a stair (and the first stair to a slide).

Go back to the west room and climb the stair. Do a running jump-and-grab to the north wall to hang from the crack. Sidle eastward till you can drop safely to the gold blocks. Drop on the north side. Enter the chamber to the north and throw the switch to transform the third slide to a stair. Climb the stair to a high room. Do not climb into the high room yet; first kill the panther mummy with jump shots. Now climb up and throw the two switches. One lowers the bridge to the Seal of Anubis; the other opens a door leading back to the room with the hole in the floor. Get the Small Medipack behind the sun disk, then go through the door.

Descend the broad steps, go south to the pillars, and walk to the east end. A spur leads toward the Great Obelisk. Do a running jump from the spur to the top of the Great Obelisk and pick up the Uzi Clips + Small Medipack (SECRET 1). Do another running jump south and eastward to the ledge with the Sun Disk, taking some damage. Pick up 2 sets of Uzi Clips + Large Medipack (SECRET 2). Drop off the ledge to the west and run along the balcony to the switch. Climb up to it, descend the steps, and cross the bridge to get the Seal of Anubis.

11F. The Scarab.

Recross the bridge, climb the steps, drop to the east, and follow the balcony to the south room. This is a very deep room with furniture and two panther mummies on the floor below. You may kill them as soon as you are far enough down to have a shot at them.

For now, go east, hang, and work your way south. Climb up in the middle of the east wall, climb to the platform with the pillar, and enter the passage to the east for a Large Medipack and Magnum Clips (SECRET 3).

         Tunnels
Continue through the passage and emerge at the south end of the platform, do a running jump to the ledge on the south wall, and drop between it and the next ledge. (Or return to where you climbed up to the platform with the pillar, drop, and walk under the platform and into short tunnel in the wall.) Drop to the step to the east, hang on its north side, and swing west. When you reach the southwest corner, drop, then hang from the west wall and swing northward. When you reach the northwest corner, drop to the ledge. Do a running jump-and-grab to the block on the west wall with the save icon. Save your game, go north into the Obelisk Room, and throw the switch to lower the bridge to the Scarab.

Go back into the South Room. Hang and drop to the floor, or do a running jump back to the northwest ledge and then drop to the floor. Climb the steps on the east wall up to the entrance, cross the bridge and get the Scarab.

11G. Using the Artifacts.

The underwater door in the north face of the Great Obelisk opens. Dive into the water and find the door. Come up for air, then swim into the passage. Go down, south, west, up, and north. In the southbound passage you will pass two pairs of alcoves with three items: Magnum Clips, Shotgun Shells, and a Small Medipack. You probably have time to pick up the first of them; leave the rest for later so you don't run out of air. The swim ends in a pool in a medium-sized room. Refill your lungs and get the Shotgun Shells, Magnum Clips, and Small Medipack on the floor of the pool.

The room contains a panther mummy, so try to climb out of the pool opposite it. Kill it, climb the stair behind the Save Icon to get 2 sets of Magnum Clips, and save your game.

Dive back into the pool and go swim through the passage for the Small Medipack and Shotgun Shells in the second pair of alcoves, then back to the pool. Climb up at the west end of the south wall, and follow the corridor to a low room with another panther mummy.

Kill the mummy from above, then jump down and get the Large Medipack on the east side of the mound. Climb the mound and leave southward. Descend the new steps into the room with the Small Obelisk that you passed through in stage 10. Insert the four artifacts in the receptacles on the sides of the obelisk to open the exit to the Sanctuary. Stop at the inner door in the Sphinx Statue to pick up Shotgun Shells, then use the exit.
