Mind Question: 1) How does a Photon accellerate from speed 0 to the speed of light instantly? (like emitted from a flashlight) And: 2) How does a Photon decellearate from the speed of light to 0 instantly? (like hitting a dark surface) And: 3) How does a Photon change directions instantly? (like hitting a mirror) Answer: The Photon never changed speed from light speed! Consider that the electrons surrounding a nucleus are traveling at light speed, as energy. When the flashlights batteries excited an electron by adding energy to it, it knocked the electron into a higher orbit. A Photon is emitted from the electron when the electron drops down 1 quantum to the next lower orbit. The Photon exits and travels as energy (wave) at the speed of light. The effect is like visualizing the proton as being in orbit around the nucleus when it is emitted. Created: 02/04/09
